| So I finally got back to a casino. It would appear that my last trip was on August 12, so it has been almost a solid 3 months. Its good to be back.
I opted not to play no limit hold-em as is the norm for me and casino runs because, I had the oportunity to play some omaha 8b. If you know my poker habits at all, this game has made my online fortune, as well as a good portion of my money when playing in a casino. Only problem is the game NEVER ran at morongo (I don't consider 5 card omaha healthy), and hardly ever ran when I could get to Chumash.
Long story short, I got to finally sit at 4-8 o8b, and after about 1 hr, my table got down to 5 players, and it broke. There was another table at my limit, but it was full, and after 2 hours, a seat still hadn't opened for me. All told, I still pulled a profit for the night of 154, but would have liked to play more. Good thing (or bad maybe) Commerce is so close... can go more often.

Michel (voiceover): "If you can't find the boorish American hold'em player at the table within half an hour, you are the boorish American hold'em player."

TITLE/CREDITS. This entire movie is in black and white, with subtitles.
-----
Michel (voiceover): "This game is really scummy, and well above what I can afford to play. My entire bankroll is riding on this one session going well. This is Teddy CIA's place, where they only play Pot Limit Omaha, the most sophisticated game in Europe."
- Michel knocks on the window -
Teddy CIA: "You want poker, or whore?"
Michel: "Poker. Give me three stacks of high, elitist society."
-----
Michel: "I raise."
Teddy CIA: "It's a position raise. I call."
- The flop comes 5-7-A, with two diamonds -
Michel: "I bet the pot."
Teddy CIA: "I raise the pot."
Michel: "I reraise the pot."
Teddy CIA: "I reraise the pot."
Michel: "Pot."
Teddy CIA: "Pot."
Michel: "Pot."
Teddy CIA: "Pot."
Michel: "Pot."
Teddy CIA: "Pot."
Michel (voiceover): "I sit back and think. I have three aces - the best possible hand. I want him to think I'm debating a call, but really I'm just thinking about Monte Carlo, and whatever the [censored] is in Monte Carlo."
Michel: *shrugs* "Okay, well, I re-pot it, I'm all in, because I don't think you have a pair." *winks at the camera*
Teddy CIA: "Who are you winking at? It doesn't matter, I call."
Michel (voiceover): "I know before he even says it."
Teddy CIA: "I have 8-6-4-3 with two diamonds, for a wrap straight draw and a flush draw, which is a favorite over your top set."
- Turn is a King. River is a 2 which gives Teddy CIA an ace-to-five straight for the win. -
- Michel sits there, shell-shocked. -
Joey Croissant: "Come on, I'll get you a whore."
-----
Michel (voiceover): "Well, that sucked. Since then, I've sworn off of poker and made my living as a roadside prostitute for boorish American tourists. Hopefully, I can pay my way through law school that way. I can always find games, though. I could turn this truck onto the road and be at the Taj in 19 and a half hours."
-----
Michel (voiceover): "I'm here to pick my friend Worm up from prison."
- Worm walks out of prison -
Michel: "Worm! It's wonderful to see you!"
- They kiss each other passionately on the mouth -
Michel: "How was prison?"
Worm: "I was brutally sodomized on a regular basis."
-----
Michel: "Look...Croissant, I never told you this, but about a year ago, I was playing poker at the Casino des Atlantes, and Marcel Luske walks in. He sits down at the 50/100 pot limit game. And, I mean, the whole place stops, right? Just watching this guy play. After a while there isn't a retarded European gambling game going, because everybody's just, you know, watching this guy."
- Joey Croissant nods -
Michel: "So you know what I did? I sat down."
Joey Croissant: "No way, you need at least 300,000 euros to sit down at a game like that. Such bad financial management is typical of a boorish American!"
- Joey Croissant and Michel laugh for twenty-six minutes -
Michel: "Right, okay, but seriously, I played for an hour, doing nothing but folding. Then I won a huge pot."
Joey Croissant: "Aces? Kings? Ace-King doublesuited? Suited aces? High connectors? Middle doublesuited connectors? Two big pair?"
Michel: "Rags."
Joey Croissant: "That's probably fine too, you're only like a 48/52 dog."
Michel: "I raised. And he came over the top of me, like I was a boorish American. I re-popped it. He potted it again. I think for like two seconds and then I re-pot it."
Joey Croissant: "Jesus [censored] Christ, how much money did you have?"
Michel: "After I bet I would quietly slide my chips back toward my stack, nobody noticed. Anyway, he thinks for a while, looks at me, checks his cards again, and he mucks. I take it down. And then he looks at me and says, 'I have to know. Did you have it?' And I said, 'I'm sorry Marcel, I can't remember.'"
Joey Croissant: "Face!"
Michel: "I know, totally. Anyway, based on that one hand, I felt confident gambling for all the money I had, at one time."
-----
Law Professor: "I am a Jew."
Michel: "I hate you."
-----
Teddy CIA: "We play, heads up, Pot Limit Omaha, 25 and 50 blinds, until one of us has it all?"
Michel: "Out of sheer curiosity, you realize you're giving up like boat loads of equity by agreeing to gamble for money that's effectively yours anyway, right? That you could just not let me play, and then kill me and take what I have?"
Teddy CIA: "I know, but I am a boorish American!"
- Michel and Teddy CIA laugh for seventy-two minutes -
-----
Michel (voiceover): "I pick up Ace-Ace-Jack-Ten doublesuited."
Michel: "I raise the pot."
Teddy CIA: "Very aggressive. But, I reraise the pot."
Michael (voiceover): "He's representing Ace-Ace-King-King doublesuited, the only hand better than mine. I can't call, and give him a chance to catch. I can only fold...if I believe him."
Michel: "I reraise, I'm all in."
Teddy CIA: "Take it down."
-----
- The flop reads 10-9-5, with two spades -
Michel: "Pot."
Teddy CIA: "Pot."
Michel: "Pot."
Teddy CIA: "Pot."
Michel: "Pot."
Teddy CIA: "Pot."
Michel: "Pot. I'm all in."
Teddy CIA: "Alright, I call. What do you have?"
Michel: "Jack high flush draw and middle set."
Teddy CIA: "Wrap, with a king high flush draw."
Michel: "Boy, I sure hope my 5:4 edge holds up, otherwise I am going to die."
- Turn is an off-suit 5, giving Michel an unbeatable hand. But the river is the ace of spades anyway, because it's always the [censored] ace of spades. -
Teddy CIA: "He beat me. Pay that man his money. His silly, silly-looking European money."
-----
Cab Driver: "Where are you off to?"
Michel: "Monte Carlo."
Cab Driver: "Good luck."

| Ive been a slacker. No updates for a while, no poker to speak of recently. Been playing mostly online so the cash ytd has not changed too much. I did cash out a small amount more, and lost a 10$ home game, nothing too crazy. My balance is also higher online, but that can change quickly.

| So it seems my random blogging and being a poker player may just pay off. PokerStars is having a freeroll tournament available to people who have regularly maintained a blog for longer than two months. Although my blog may not be a stellar example of frequency, it is semi regular with 2 or so posts monthly.
With luck, I will qualify for the tournament (you will see some anouncement here shortly) and then I will have a good reason to write about poker again, not just the lack of playing.

| Turn 21, gamble less... Does that make sense to anyone? Well, as counter intuitive as it is, it seems as though that is what is happening for me. Due to school and the lack of time due to other social constraints I have not been able to play too much poker. Home games and PokerStars have been my only games.

| So I am about to turn 21, and as of yet do not have any viable plan to goto vegas. I want to go, but it seems any plan I try to make to get there falls apart. I suppose I should wait until the rest of my friends turn 21. On that note, I also haven't had any time to goto a casino. I have been playing mostly on pokerstars, relatively successfully, doing slightly better than breaking even. Anyways, time to do some overdue school work in preparation for tomorrow's festivities.

| So... School is starting up once again, yet another of many factors which cut into my poker time. Recently with gas prices up, and my lack of desire to drive four hours to play cards have contributed to me not going to a casino of late. I have played primarily online, but have not cashed much of anything out. I am playing mostly sit n go tournaments on PokerStars (The only site I play on), mostly 9 player turbos, but occasionally heads up tournaments as well.
I should also mention that my girlfriend does not condone my gambling... I'll corupt her eventually.
Nothing else new to report other than the year to date...

| So in order to celebrate the conclusion of my summer internship which caused me to have a minimal amount of time to play poker, I decided it was time to go back to a casino. Didn't want to drive all that far, so I went to Commerce. I am still not 21 so it was risky, but it worked out ok... Getting in at least worked out ok.
I didn't fare so well. I wanted to play a lower buy-in game just in case I somehow got carded, and forgot to adjust my game to the horrible players. The players at the 2-3 no limit game are among the worst I have ever seen in a casino. It actually made my brain hurt watching them play the way they do. Worse than that, the amount of luck they were getting seemed to keep them around. I just couldn't win a hand when I went.
Ended the session down about 300.

It's amazing what can come from people you meet playing online games... even those games without pictures. Anyways, you should all go read this blog. Aurora has more embarassing stories than I do... And I am the one who was caught by the police ... at 2 A.M. At gunpoint...
Proof of her having a worse story.

| It was time for another one of those large Chumash tournaments. This time... well I will let you read the story of how it ended.
That isn't to say I didn't do well, but one ill-timed move, and one horrible outdraw cost me my tournament life. First, the ill-timed move. This is at the point when there are about 120 players left, and only 100 of the players make some money. I thought I could use this to my advantage and push people around and steal a few extra pots. Apparently I wasn't the only one with this idea. I had a moderate starting hand (JcTc) preflop, and I was one person before the button. Everyone had folded around to me, so I raised to 3x the big blind. I had about 46,000 in chips at this point, and this bet was 12,000. The person immediately to my left (the button) pushes all in as quick as I announced my raise for 50,000 in total. The blinds both fold, and me not wanting to bubble from the tournament, eventually decide to fold. Damn bastard on the button flipped over jack nine to show me his bluff, he would have been in a world of trouble had I called.
Now the fated hand... the one my entire destiny rested in. About 30 minutes later than the hand listed above, I was at 32,000 in chips somehow, with blinds at 3,000/6,000. I get dealt pocket jacks. UTG raises to 15,000, next 2 players fold, next player calls, I push all in, Blinds fold, UTG folds, Other player calls for his last remaining chips (conveniently we both had 32k to start the hand). One of us was walking away from the tournament after this hand. I was relieved to see him flip over Ace King, and not a higher pocket pair. I was more relieved when the flop came 45Q. I was ecstatic when the turn brought me a J. I start saying "No ten no ten no ten!" ... apparently the dealer wasn't listening, and the other player rivers a ten. They make their straight, and I am sent walking. I suppose I shouldn't be too upset. After all I made the money, I made it to 67th place. However, had I won that hand, I am 90% confident I would have made it to the final table, or even had I just folded around from that point on, I would have made an extra at least $500. It was a big hand. Life goes on I suppose, there will be other tournaments. It was a good experience.
So I ended at 67 of 722 players. Not too bad. I made money. | comments: Leave a comment |
| Work has been interesting. Took a trip to Itasca Illinois for training. Small town a short ways away from Chicago... Heres hoping I don't end up living in a place like that...
I have only played one time since my last report in a small home game which I normally would not even mention on here. I just feel slightly deprived of poker. I could not find a casino that was 18+ on my venture to middle America, and that my have impacted gambling time, but I don't believe I will be able to play much until work is over. That means until August I am not likely to post / play much except for online.

| It has been an eventful few weeks. First.. Had a great run for a while pushing my YTD to well over 4500. Then in the last 5 days dropped about a grand. Horrible outdraws, inability to win and other anoying factors combined, but either way it wasnt good.
The recent success came in 2 trips to Chumash Casino which profited another 100 in their NLHE games, but 400 of that went back in the second day of one trip. I also decided to buy in to online poker on PokerStars once again. It has been a while since I have done that, so I put in 300 which should let me have quite a bit of fun in their low money tournaments. Since I do my poker winning on a cash basis of accounting I have to temporarily count that money as a loss. That is why my YTD is as low as it shows.
Current YTD: +$3674
Side note, and the reason that I may not post too much anytime soon is that I went and got myself a real job. So that aside from a tournament at Chumash that I plan to play in early July I do not believe I will be playing much poker which doesn't give me much of a reason to post here.
I shall return. | comments: Leave a comment |
| The good... I recently had 2 very successful runs at Chumash which resulted in almost $1400 in profit. The bad... Prior to those two trips, I had a very unsuccessful run at the same casino. The ugly... I tried to play at a closer casino, Commerce, and being under 21 actually matters at this place. They didn't particularly want to share their gambling fun with me.
This was basically a YTD update... will write a good story as time allows.

| What a run. I have been hesitant to post because I was afraid to jinx the results. I have not changed the amount I am playing for, I am not changing the games I was playing in, I just had a decent run of luck lately. My last mentioned Chumash run netted me a profit of 680. 300 from 2/5 NLHE, and 380 from 3/6o8b full kill.
Jon was relatively impressed with that performance. I then went with Eric to Morongo and profited another 350 from their 2/5 NLHE game. Not a bad day, however Eric trumped me with a larger result. Good for him.
Then the night that will probably hold my record until I switch to a bigger game. Last week I went with both Jon and Eric to Chumash. I sat down with the max buyin -200- and as I looked around the table I was sitting at, I realized quickly I was in trouble. There were 3 players with stacks of at least 1000. Good or bad, they had the chips to sustain hits from me, and probability is not often my friend. It quickly became obvious to me that all three of them knew eachother, a bad sign, but it had perks. They had been there since 2 pm, (it was currently after midnight) and 2 of the 3 wanted to leave. They also were picking on the one who did not want to leave, causing him to be on tilt. Not to mention, all three appeared quite drunk. This meant I would have to pick a hand and run with it and hope for the best. I picked up a relatively nice hand in AJ suited and called a maniacs raise to 30 preflop. I hit a jack on the flop giving me top pair, and the maniac bet 30 again. I raised to 100 picking up one other caller and the maniac flat called. The turn paired the board with a 5, and he pushed all in for my remaining 65 and the other players 500. The other player folded, and the maniac showed king jack. I only had to avoid a king and I would have a 500 dollar pot coming my way. The turn was another 9 making 2 pair on board. I am glad the other player went away because he had the 9 which would have given him a boat. After that the maniac continued to play reckless and i worked up to about 800 off of him. Then the maniacs left and they combined the NL tables. I was close to big stack but not quite with my 800, an there was probably close to 5000 in play. At this new table it seemed any draw I played, no matter how badly I played it would hit. By the end of the night I profited $1210.
I also played in assorted other games, but nothing as noteworthy as that.

| I recently emerged into the black again on my spreadsheet which was an accomplishment in and of itself. I then took part in a large buyin home game style tournament which a friend of mine was able to set me up a seat for. I took second place in this tournament after a lucky triple up got me to the final table, where a horrible outdraw took the bracelet away from me. This tournament actually had a bracelet, which was relatively funny to me, but I wasn't going to argue. Second place out of 22 people profited me a nice $400.
Made 2 trips to casinos, one to Morongo, one to Chumash. Morongo was an interesting experience. I decided to play in their "Big Game" 5-10 NL Holdem 500 min buy in because I was mad about losing the tournament that day with aces vs. JT. Anyways, I sat with 500 just as the game was starting, the guy immediately to my left sat with 10,000. I should have known it was a bad sign. I worked my way to 600, was getting up to leave and foolishly let them talk me into staying. I dropped to 200 before working back to 550 and leaving finally. Never again will I do that before having a bankroll which can support it.
Then went to chumash a few days later and played some Omaha H/L. It worked well because I profited 165.
Planning on going to Chumash again tomorrow with Jon. Will see how that goes... expect an update soon.

| So the Chumash Casino recently held a large tournament, I figured, hey... why not risk a whole lot of money (to me) and try to place... Well, I did one of the two things. I risked a lot of money. I lost. I did better than my friends who were also there, as I placed in the top 200 of the over 700 players. but alas, I needed to place in the top 80 to make any money. Was a good tournament though. I feel I played well, I just played too tight as the blinds swallowed me up. Good to know for next time. Which reminds me, next big Chumash tournament should be July 9 they tell me.
Hopefully that goes better.

| Well, as I last left here, I had given up on big bet poker due to a request of a person very close to me. That didn't last too long. I picked up playing poker again right after my birthday and haven't stopped since (that's in September for those of you keeping score). I figured that since it is something I will do regularly I will keep some form of record of it here in addition to my OCD driven excel spreadsheets I maintain.
That is all for now. Expect semi regular updates about my progress. Year to date 2005 is in the black for now... +245 | comments: Leave a comment |

| I have been asked by someone to give up on big bet poker. As such, I played in my last game just hours ago. I no longer will risk any sum of money larger than $10 on a game, and as such, will not profit from it. Apparently it is an unethical source of income with too much danger in it for me. Either way, I have essentially retired from poker.
Approximate winnings in total: $10,000
I think I will use the time I used to spend playing to improve upon myself in some manner of speaking. Be it running, or just as a person, I have much to improve and I know this. Now I will have time and a reason to make a conscious effort to do so. | comments: Leave a comment |
